Use the timeline on the right to go back in time in order to select a backup that contains your data. Some key combinations don't work when your Mac is using a firmware password. Open Launchpad and click on Time Machine.If you're using a keyboard made for a PC, such as a keyboard with a Windows logo, try a keyboard made for Mac.

Enter your admin name and password if asked and you will arrive at the Recovery Mode screen.
Click Options next to the Macs Macintosh HD disk and then click Continue. Or use your built-in keyboard or a wired keyboard. Press and hold the Touch ID (the power button) for a few seconds until you see 'Loading startup options'.
If you're using a wireless keyboard, plug it into your Mac, if possible. Some keyboards have a light that flashes briefly at startup, indicating that the keyboard is recognized and ready for use. You might need to wait a few seconds before pressing the keys, to give your Mac more time to recognize the keyboard as it starts up. Then press and hold the key combination after pressing the power button to turn on your Mac. If you can't shut down, press and hold the power button for up to 10 seconds, until your Mac turns off. What I have tried: Navigating to literally every partition and folder I can think of to find where /Users/ might be instead. I see every other folder I am expecting to see (I think), except for /Users/. If you can't get a key combination to work when restarting your Mac, shut down your Mac first. Command ()-R: Start up from the built-in macOS Recovery system. Navigate to /Volumes/ (my OS drive name)/ Type ls to see directory tree. Press and hold all keys in the combination together, not one at a time.
